ComEd Wins T&D Automation Project of the Year for Fault Indicator Project Utilizing the Landis+Gyr DA Network
The pilot project, which received the T&D Automation Project of the Year Award from Utility Automation & Engineering T&D magazine, involves special overhead fault indicators equipped with two-way distribution automation radios that communicate on ComEd’s existing Landis+Gyr RF mesh network. The utility also installed RTscada RTicg Intelligent Communication Gateway from DC Systems at the network head-end to communicate with the utility’s centralized database.
“This project resulted in faster response times for restoring power by enabling us to identify faults more quickly and has helped improve our overall reliability,” said Tim McGuire, Vice President of ComEd Construction & Maintenance.
To support the project, Landis+Gyr worked with project partners Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) and DC Systems to integrate the communication capabilities into the fault indicators and support the software applications.
“This project illustrates the commitment we have to working with other companies to build solutions that are compatible with existing systems and infrastructure,” said Michelle Mindala-Freeman, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Landis+Gyr.
