Future-proof energy supply for Liechtenstein: Landis+Gyr launches new smart metering project with LKW

Cham, Switzerland, 26 March 2025 – Landis+Gyr (SIX: LAND) is pleased to announce the new smart metering project with Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke (LKW) covering the manufacturing, delivery and operation of a smart metering system. The project with LKW is in line with the nationwide renewal of intelligent metering systems in Liechtenstein and is an important element in the ongoing modernization of the country's energy infrastructure.

As an energy provider with over a century of experience throughout the Principality of Liechtenstein, LKW continues to strengthen the efficiency and resilience of the network. Following the initial rollout of the Landis+Gyr portfolio in 2011, LKW is now advancing its infrastructure with a secure and future-proof solution that optimises operations and improves cost efficiency.

We are pleased with the result of the tender and look forward to continuing our long-standing partnership with Landis+Gyr. This is the second time we are implementing a smart meter rollout together – a proof of our successful collaboration, which we will continue to expand in order to master future challenges." Lukas Marte, Smart Metering Project Manager at LKW

The project in Liechtenstein comprises 27,500 smart household meters and 1,000 smart industrial meters, along with a full suite of communication and software solutions, designed to meet the highest security requirements of a future-oriented and smart metering environment in Liechtenstein.

The solution is based on the Gridstream® AIM, a proven SaaS platform that enables seamless communication across various field devices, data concentrators and data acquisition systems via G3-PLC or mobile communications and enables the connection of multi-utility meters.

Mobile communication is integrated as a plug-and-play service, designed to accommodate a variety of network conditions, for a future-proof and legally compliant solution that meets both Swiss and EU requirements.

‘We are proud that we were able to score points with our local service, innovative products and a robust complete solution, and we are very pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with LKW. Thanks to the future-proof, expandable platform, we are prepared for the challenges of electrification, decarbonisation and digitalisation and are making our contribution to the Energy Strategy 2050,’ said Christan Zaugg, Head of Business Unit Switzerland, Landis+Gyr.

The adaptable and expandable smart metering solution from Landis+Gyr thus enables a long-term response to dynamic changes in the energy market and is an important component for a secure energy supply and efficient electricity grids – in the present and the future.
