Landis+Gyr and Acea Distribuzione complete one of Europe’s largest smart metering rollouts
The implementation of the integrated AMM system began in 2004 with the objective of improving energy efficiency in Italy’s capital. The system includes high accuracy bi-directional meters and smart grid applications such as network operation control, and the ability to monitor low and medium voltage line status automatically. The system has been designed to be extended to gas and water meters.
Acea Distribuzione’s customers can now benefit from improved supply quality, a choice of commercial options tailored to their individual consumption profiles, such as demand incentives or possibly prepayment, as well as availability of information online.
“Acea Distribuzione has demonstrated strong commitment to improving energy efficiency in Italy. The utility has shown true leadership in its early implementation of AMM and we are proud to be affiliated with the company in helping to manage energy better,” says Nicola Criscuoli, CEO, Landis+Gyr Italy. “Our AMM solution enables Acea Distribuzione to improve customer relationship management and demand-side management, and avail of a wide range of applications including remote meter reading and many other value added services.”
The project is a strategic partnership between Acea, Landis+Gyr, BTicino and Ericsson. The system concept was developed by Landis+Gyr and Acea Distribuzione with the sole objective to modernize and improve the energy delivery system.
The same system is also being implemented in other utilities in Italy and abroad, including EPCG, the national electricity distribution company in Montenegro, as either full-scale or pilot applications.
Acea Distribuzione serves 1.5 million electricity customers in the area of Rome and approximately eight million water customers across Italy. It is one of the biggest municipal utility providers in Europe.
Landis+Gyr has won other projects in Italy, including the utilities AASS Repubblica di San Marino, ASM Voghera, ASM Terni, IRIS Gorizia, CEG Aosta, SECAB, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, CEDIS, in Trentino Alto Adige, as well as others.
