Landis+Gyr Brings Smart Grid as a Service to European Market

Managed Services offering enables utilities to focus on their core business

Zug/Amsterdam – October 4, 2017 – Landis+Gyr will showcase its new Managed Services offering for European customers at European Utility Week in Amsterdam from October 3-5.

“We see increased complexity in utilities’ operations together with technology and market developments in the context of digitalization trends. By offering Smart Grid and AMI operations as a service to our customers, we enable them to have the right tools to better focus on the new opportunities provided by this transformation,” said Oliver Iltisberger, Executive Vice President EMEA at Landis+Gyr.

Managed Services are not new territory for Landis+Gyr. The company provides AMI operations across the Nordics, has a strong Smart Grid services footprint in North America and manages more than 15 million metering points under service contracts worldwide. With an expanded offering portfolio in EMEA, the company is responding to strong signals from the market. “Services and software applications represent a major part of our customers’ smart grid investments in the coming years,” Iltisberger said.

Depending on an energy utility’s preferences, the service scope can range from support for daily operations to a fully managed IoT operating service. Landis+Gyr has recently signed several contracts with various scopes for Managed Services:

In Finland, Landis+Gyr recently signed a major AMI service contract with Caruna. With their existing contract up for renewal, Caruna chose Landis+Gyr as their future service partner to take over the daily operation of Caruna’s AMI solution with 650,000 residential meters as of Autumn 2018.

Additionally, in Denmark, SK Forsyning and Landis+Gyr signed a contract for a comprehensive smart metering solution. In addition to AMI meters and software, Landis+Gyr will provide a wide range of services to support an efficient rollout and subsequent operation of the smart metering solution for the next 12 years.

Landis+Gyr’s and Vattenfall’s AMI pilot project on the implementation of next-generation metering technology in Sweden is going full steam ahead. The project also includes ‘Software as a Service’.

Many European customers have indicated it is not reasonable to invest into capabilities and resources to operate in-house AMI and Smart Grid solutions. Utilities want to take advantage of actionable, high-quality data and be fully confident in the efficiency and security of their operational models. Furthermore, predictability of costs and minimizing risks related to AMI and Smart Grid technology, integration and deployment play an important role in utilities’ decision making.
