Landis+Gyr Completes Advanced Metering Project in Rio Grande Do Sul
Landis+Gyr’s smart metering solutions for residential, commercial and industrial consumers provide strategic operational benefits for CEEE
CURITIBA, Brazil, Oct. 16, 2019 – Landis+Gyr announced completion of an advanced metering and smart grid project for CEEE, the largest electric distribution utility serving the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. The project included state-of-the-art smart metering solutions for both commercial and industrial consumers, as well as a centralized measurement system for residential consumers.
The communications backbone for the project includes both Gridstream® RF mesh and cellular for nearly 12,000 commercial and industrial meters. Along with associated IT infrastructure and data management tools, the system will help improve automation and revenue protection for these accounts.
Landis+Gyr also deployed its loss and measurement management system, SGP+M, for 45,000 of CEEE’s residential accounts. The system connects with the communication networks to transmit measurement data to CEEE's central system. SGP+M provides efficiency by cutting costs and increasing safety, reliability and agility for both the distributor and its customers. The solution also enables remote energy monitoring and service connection.
“The consortium led by Landis+Gyr in our measurement automation project has brought leading-edge technology to our measurement area, reducing operating costs in parallel with reduced losses. It is noteworthy that Landis+Gyr is a supplier that is always concerned with meeting the project goals and overcoming all challenges of implementation. The company has the best engineering practices,” said André Sebastião da Silva Amaral, Head of Measurement and Loss Management Division Distribution at CEEE.
“The conclusion of these projects is a significant milestone for Landis+Gyr. The company has accomplished the strategic benefits planned by CEEE of increasing operational efficiency and combating non-technical losses. The project's large geographical area and the diversity of field scenarios made this project unique, demonstrating the robustness of the technology solution provided and the ability of the Landis+Gyr-led consortium to perform,” says Felipe Marcon, Landis+Gyr's Director of Services for South America.
The delivery of these projects to CEEE reinforces Landis+Gyr's commitment to improving energy management practices. By providing consumers safe and reliable equipment, and electricity distributors with solutions to promote better management of their business, Landis+Gyr is helping communities implement smart city technology worldwide.
