Landis+Gyr Discloses New Brazil Strategy at Expertise 2019
Brazil strategy announcement consolidates Landis+Gyr’s position as the world’s largest supplier of smart metering systems
Curitiba, Brazil – August 12, 2019 – Landis+Gyr (LAND.SW) announced its new strategy for the Brazilian market earlier this month, including plans to phase out its line of conventional residential metering products in order to focus on smart metering solutions in the country. The announcement was made at Expertise 2019, Landis+Gyr’s annual event for the Brazilian energy distribution sector.
“By migrating to smart residential meter manufacturing, Landis+Gyr will provide more effective and integrated energy management for utilities to support the safe and reliable delivery of energy to cities, communities and consumers,” said Marcelo Machado, Landis+Gyr’s CEO for South America. “The decision to transition away from the conventional residential metering market towards a new generation of smart meters reflects the company's efforts to improve power reliability, reduce non-technical losses and evolve to IoT (Internet of Things) connected platforms. This initiative anticipates the trend towards smart metering amid the growth of distributed generation in the country, seeking to improve the performance of the distribution network and provide greater energy consumption options for Brazilian consumers.”
The announcement is part of Landis+Gyr's global strategy of delivering interoperable solutions, helping to accelerate the digital transformation of power utilities and expanding its technology leadership, which today includes over 60 million smart grid connected intelligent devices, while reinforcing Landis+Gyr’s commitment to promote efficient energy management worldwide.
