Landis+Gyr’s E860 Intelligent Grid Edge Sensor Achieves PQ Class A Certification, Redefining Power Quality in Metering-based Applications
Certification brings high-end power quality (PQ) functionality to energy producers, TSOs, DSOs and large industrial consumers, maximising the value of their smart grid investments and enabling continuous visibility of the grid performance.
Cham, Switzerland – October 9, 2025 – Landis+Gyr (SIX: LAND) is proud to announce that its E860 intelligent grid edge sensor has been awarded PQ Class A certification under IEC 61000-4-30. This milestone marks a significant step in grid visibility by extending premium, reference-grade power quality measurement beyond standard high-precision metering.
Traditionally, dedicated PQ Class A devices have been reserved for high-voltage substations and critical transmission nodes, while the medium and low voltage segments relied on simpler sensors with limited PQ capabilities. With the E860, Landis+Gyr is bringing high-end functionality into distributed grid sensors so that DSOs and TSOs can access permanent, detailed PQ data closer to customers and assets connection points.
The E860’s Class A certification means energy producers, TSOs, DSOs and large industrial consumers can:
- Maximise their smart grid investment – one device for both metering and PQ sensing, reducing the need for standalone PQ analysers.
- Achieve end-to-end PQ visibility – from generation and transmission down to secondary substations and end-consumer connections.
- Use collected data to detect and respond early to PQ issues, increasingly driven by DER integration and EV adoption – such as voltage dips, harmonics, flickers, unbalance, and more.
“Achieving PQ Class A in the E860 is more than a technical certification. It marks a significant milestone that brings specialist precision to a wide range of edge point configurations,” said Rostislavas Marcenko, Head of BU Electicity ICG at Landis+Gyr.
“Utilities can now access reference-grade power quality data exactly where it is needed, without added complexity of dedicated equipment or system. This sets a new benchmark for how the grid can be measured and managed in the era of decentralised energy networks,” added Tamás Pintér, Head of Product Management ICG at Landis+Gyr.
By establishing this new class of metering-based PQ device, Landis+Gyr enables utilities to combine scalability of premium smart grid meters with the precision of reference-grade PQ instruments, giving operators the tools to integrate renewables effectively, safeguard assets and ensure long-term grid reliability.
