New Generation of IoT-ready Smart Meters from Landis+Gyr Helps DSOs Maintain a Safe, Reliable and Efficient Grid

Landis+Gyr introduces new generation of residential and industrial electricity meters and enhances its utility IoT platform, Gridstream^® Connect

Cham, Switzerland – March 31, 2022 – Since the launch of Gridstream^® Connect, its open secure and scalable IoT platform in 2019, Landis+Gyr has been upgrading its suite of smart meters with new variants for residential and industrial consumers. With the rise of electric vehicles, renewables and prosumer contributions, grid operators are facing increasingly erratic and bidirectional power flows while consumers seek greater control of their energy bills. With ten times the accuracy and speed of modern meters and an extensible, modular architecture, the new generation of IoT-ready smart meters by Landis+Gyr offers advanced metering and edge intelligence to support DSOs in maintaining a safe, reliable and efficient grid.

For residential applications, Landis+Gyr introduces two new variants of the E360 residential meter series allowing DSOs to utilize new possibilities in smart grid applications and personal energy management. As the rest of the E360 series, these meters enable actionable insights on billing, power quality and edge applications. Both are IoT ready intelligent endpoints with LTE CAT M1 /NB1 and NB2 enabled. Whereas the E360 CT LTE is a transformer connected variant for higher consumption applications, the E360 S2 3phase LTE allows for more options in regard to SIM card handling and is designed for multiutility use cases supporting wired and wireless M-Bus meter and OMS 4.xxx configurations. Both variants feature Smart Push^TM architecture to ensure near real time data transmission. As a result, DSO’s are now able to cover a wide range of applications with the same meter family, simplifying rollout and operational processes.

To address the specific and highly customized needs of industrial prosumers, Landis+Gyr also launches the second generation of its E660 Industrial Meter. In addition to precision insights on consumption, billing, and power quality, the E660 series 2 industrial meter offers powerful capabilities for network monitoring and grid edge control, all in one device. Featuring a swappable communication module (LTE CAT M1 / M1 and LTE CAT 1 / 2G) and an extension module with additional I/O’s, the E660 enables simultaneous connectivity to the head end system, SCADA and other industrial systems with an ever-growing protocol conversion suite to offer a versatile and extensible measurement platform for evolving industrial needs.

The introduction of these new intelligent endpoints and their expanded communication features expands the capabilities of Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream^® Connect platform and the Company’s IoT portfolio.
