Vattenfall creates central Europe’s largest GPRS-based meter data reading system

Vattenfall, Poland, first signed a contract with Landis+Gyr in 2006 to deploy its Gridstream Converge system. Following the successful implementation of the system, Landis+Gyr has deployed more than 5,000 Industrial and Commercial meters for remote service. Most of the meters are read using GPRS technology via Landis+Gyr’s flexible communications modules integrated into the meters. In addition, special user interfaces were created for fast and secure data export to Vattenfall’s billing system.

The new contract is an extension of the existing contract and includes the same energy management solution. Speaking about the contract, Marek Kleszczewski, Distribution System Operator Director, Vattenfall Distribution Poland S.A., said: “Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream Converge system has become a strategic system for our data acquisition processes and allows us to efficiently measure energy data.”

“We have been working closely with Vattenfall in Poland to provide them with a best-in-class solution customised to their unique needs. Together, our strong cooperation and commitment to energy efficiency has helped us deploy an integrated system to manage energy better,” said Andrzej Szymanski, CEO Landis+Gyr Poland.

Another company in the Vattenfall Group, Vattenfall Heat, has also deployed the Gridstream Converge system for its cogeneration plant in Poland’s capital city, Warsaw, demonstrating the smooth interrelation of the system’s parts for the Group’s various divisions.

Separately, Landis+Gyr recently announced that it signed a contract with ENERGA, one of Poland’s largest utilities, to provide its industrial and commercial acquisition system licensed for 10, 000 metering points. The deal represented a major success for Landis+Gyr Poland which has recently been expanding its presence in the country.
