Landis+Gyr and Horizon Energy Infrastructure Announce Extended Collaboration to Support UK’s Smart Meter Rollout Beyond 2026
Manchester, UK, November 14, 2024 – Horizon Energy Infrastructure (“Horizon”), part of the Arcus Infrastructure Partners group, and Landis+Gyr (SIX: LAND), a global leader in integrated energy management solutions, are pleased to announce an extended partnership that will drive the next phase of smart meter deployment across the UK.
This new five-year agreement, spanning from 2026 until 2030, builds on the existing collaboration and aims to provide critical support during what is anticipated to be a challenging period for energy retailers and smart meter installation programes.
The partnership between Horizon and Landis+Gyr represents a significant commitment to addressing the evolving needs of the UK’s energy market, as both companies work together to ensure the continued success and stability of the country’s smart metering initiatives.
“Extending our partnership with Landis+Gyr reflects our shared commitment to improving the smart meter rollout in the UK, even amidst the uncertainty facing the market,” said Tom Mullens, Managing Director, Horizon Energy Infrastructure. “With this agreement, we are better positioned to provide competitive innovative solutions that not only support energy retailers but also enhance the consumer experience by ensuring reliable access to smart energy technologies.”
This collaboration comes at a pivotal time when the UK’s smart meter rollout has faced many challenges, including slow installation rates and increasing pressure on suppliers to meet regulatory deadlines. A recent report highlighted that many manufacturers might consider exiting the UK market due to these hurdles, which would further strain the rollout efforts. By extending the partnership, Horizon and Landis+Gyr are reaffirming their dedication to stabilizing and future-proofing the industry during this critical period.
“Landis+Gyr has always been at the forefront of smart meter innovation and commitment to the national smart meter rollout. Our extended partnership with Horizon will allow us to continue this journey with a focus on long-term stability and growth,” said Rob Harper, Director Business Development, Landis+Gyr UK. “Together, we will provide the necessary support to navigate the complexities of the UK’s energy landscape and drive forward the smart meter programme that is crucial for the nation’s energy transition.”
The extended collaboration will also focus on leveraging data and analytics to enhance the efficiency of meter installations and optimize energy usage. By integrating advanced technologies, both companies aim to empower consumers with greater control over their energy consumption, ultimately supporting the UK’s wider decarbonization goals.
With this strategic partnership, Horizon Energy Infrastructure and Landis+Gyr are poised to play a key role in the next phase of the UK’s energy journey, ensuring that smart meter deployments continue to progress despite market uncertainties.
